Today, under the well-deserved spotlight, we are featuring a young couple that, after starting their blog, left the midwest and moved to the Phillipines. They are Lindsay and Bjork and they have been a tremendous,
positive influence for us in starting our blog.
One factor that attracted us to Pinch of Yum was Bjork’s monthly report on their effors to earn an income with the blog. It began when the blog earned a little over $20 for the entire month. The neat thing was that, on each succeeding month, Bjork would explain the steps they incorporated as well as the income. He also gave some insights as to why things were going a certain way. These reports were very encouraging for us. You won’t believe to what level their blog’s income has progressed.
They have given us so much encouragement and help both from information on their blog and direct help when we had questions to which we just couldn’t find answers. Their blog is Pinch of Yum and in February of next year they will launch a companion site called Food Blogger Pro, which will be a membership site where food bloggers can either learn how to start their blog or take it to the next level.
Following is the interview by email we had with Lindsay:
RR What is your first name?
Lindsay
RR: And what is the name of your blog?
Lindsay: Our site is called “Pinch of Yum”
RR: What is the URL or web address?
Lindsay: http://pinchofyum.com
RR: How long have you been blogging about food?
Lindsay: About 2 1/2 years
RR: Why did you decide to become a food blogger?
Lindsay: When Bjork and I got married, I started looking for more recipes online. When I made ones that I really liked, I always shared them on Facebook or via email to my family and friends. One day I realized that I could do all that – and more – by starting a blog about food!
RR: What difficulties have you faced and overcome in becoming a blogger?
Lindsay: It’s really challenging to blog consistently when you have a full time job. I’ve been a teacher the entire time that I’ve been writing Pinch of Yum, which means that all the work for Pinch of Yum happens on my nights, weekends, and lunch breaks. It can be really overwhelming if you want to keep posting on a regular basis. I’ve found that creating schedules and systems can really help with staying on top of all the work.
RR: Do you have a favorite food personality that you try to emulate?
Lindsay: My best friends and family all love food just as much as I do and have had an influence on my “food personality”. We talk about food, we joke about food, we think about food… I’m always around people who are enjoying food just as much as I am.
RR: What is the mission of your blog?
Lindsay: To help people feel comfortable cooking good food for their family and friends. To connect with other food lovers. To share knowledge about food blogging.
RR: What is your blog’s specialty?
Lindsay: We recently announced Food Blogger Pro, a new membership website that we’ll be launching in February. I think this partner site, along with Bjork’s monthly income reports, make Pinch of Yum a little different from a traditional food blog.
RR: Do you blog about a specific cuisine and, if so, which one?
Lindsay: Nope! Love ‘em all.
RR: What camera do you use for your food photography?Lindsay: I started with a Nikon D40. Now I use a Canon 7D with a 1.4/ 50mm lens.
RR: What one main tip would you give new bloggers?
Lindsay: If you’re enjoying yourself, keep at it! It can be discouraging when you’re just starting out and you feel like your blog isn’t what you want it to be. But remember that the best blogs are not necessarily those with the highest traffic numbers or the most comments. The best blogs have passion and quality content. Work hard and have fun with it!
RR: Anything else that you would like to mention about yourself or your blog?
Lindsay: Bjork and I are working at an orphanage in the Philippines this year! If you’re interested, check out the orphanage website at http://cscshelter.org for information on donations, child sponsorship, or adoption.
what a great interview. I too LOVE Lindsay over at Pinch of Yum and look forward to their income reports as well! Very inspirational.
