Home made cream style corn. This is the recipe my mother and grandmother used before they had canned cream style corn !!
Ingredients
- 3 cups corn cut from uncooked cob, scraping cobs to remove the milk from the cobs (5 to 6 ears)*
- ½ stick butter or margarine
- 1 tablespoon flour
- ¼ to ½ cup cream or milk
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon sugar
- ¼ teaspoon pepper
Instructions
- Melt the margarine or butter in a medium-size skillet.
- Add the flour stirring to make a roux, stir in the ¼ of a cup cream or milk, salt, pepper, sugar and corn.
- Add more cream or milk if the mixture is too thick.
- Make it the texture of can creamed style corn.
- Simmer, covered, stirring occasionally, 10 to 15 minutes or until corn is tender.
- Spoon into serving dish
